A Promise Made Long Ago…

How many of us set goals? Make promises? To ourselves or others?  They may come in the guise of the ever popular “New Year’s Resolution” or be whispered to a friend, written on a notepad, jotted in a journal or sent up to Heaven during a nightly prayer.  But, be honest, after the words are written, spoken, twitted or facebooked how many of us remember them? Keep them? Honor them?

This is me honoring a promise I made to myself long ago.  As an English Major with a path to my teaching credential  I always thought I would become a writer but my passion of being a rider has always taken precedent.  My life with my horses has consumed me professionally and personally.  And joyously so. But if I don’t write it down I am afraid it will be lost.  And by it, I mean nothing more than the precious things we glean everyday from our crazy life with horses.  The lessons we learn.  About them. About us.  About whomever is at the other end of the lead rope.

My life with horses has taken me so many places.  I have met so many amazing people.  Loved and learned from so many horses.  Have given my heart away, had it stolen, had it broken, had it filled so full with love, loss, hope, dissapointment, fear and faith.

I want to remember it.  I want to share it.  We have so much more to learn on this journey.  Best to start writing these lessons down.  I do not promise they will be unique to me.  I do not promise they will be earth shattering or even filled with action and adventure.  They will be the musing of my life with horses, with my dogs and with the people who share this wonderful passion.  We are the ones up at 11 at night writing down our thoughts, organizing our minds and planning which path we will take tomorrow because from dawn to dusk we will be horseback.

May 2015 find you exploring new trails, meeting new friends and always finding the joy in the journey.
